Way Of the Akuunai

The "Akuu"; which means "cursed one", in an Akuunai's name represents its full connection with its people. It serves as a last name and personal identification. Once an Akuunai is born, it is given its blood name, that will carry throughout their entire life. The removal of the Akuu in the name is considered either a punishment or humiliation. Removal of the name by choice can be seen as disrespect and handled with death of the accused. Upon taking its birth name, a ceremonial celebration is then rewarded to the baby Akuunai; including a ritual dance, howling of the hundrs, and a hunt of the tribe.

Those who become of age will go through daunting trial. The sprouting yougkin will be taken to an isolated location, normally a desolated island apart of Ikuda, with no clear return back home. The youngkin will be left alone to defend itself through the hardship of survival for three three weeks. This task will allow the youth to answer their calling or their aspect. Only then will the youngkin ascend to adulthood and join the upper ranks of the Akuunai.
